The Fifth Avenue Hotel, in collaboration with Artlogic, hosted an exclusive breakfast event and panel discussion on the relationship between art collectors and dealers to coincide with the leading art fair Frieze New York. The discussion focused on the romance between collectors and dancers, which is often considered a nuanced dance, blending mutual passion for art with the practicalities of buying, selling, and preserving pieces of value. Collectors seek out dealers not just as vendors but as trusted advisors, relying on their expertise to navigate the intricate worlds of art, antiques, or rare items. Dealers, in turn, value collectors as more than just clients, recognizing them as enthusiasts who contribute to the vitality of their chosen field. This symbiotic relationship often ventures far beyond mere transactions to interesting collaborations and even decades-long friendships.
The event, which was held the day before the opening of Frieze New York, was moderated by Julia Halperin, Editor-at-Large of CULTURED, and featured collectors Rodney Miller and Roselyn Mathews; dealer Carla Camacho, Partner, Lehmann Maupin; and Christine Messineo, Director of Americas, Frieze. The audience consisted of illustrious artists, gallerists, dealers, collectors and figures across the art industry.
