An Evening of Radical Creativity with Rachel Rossin

October 21 : 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

2024 Creative Capital Award winner Rachel Rossin is a multimedia artist and programmer who has gained recognition for her pioneering work in virtual reality. Her multi-disciplinary practice blends painting, sculpture, and new media to create digital landscapes that explore the impact of technology on human psychology. Known for her “drawing parties,” Rossin welcomes guests for an evening of dialogue and artistic expression on the occasion of Creative Capital’s 25th Anniversary.

From a young age, Rossin was fascinated with technology and art, and began teaching herself how to program at age five. Her works have been exhibited at prestigious institutions worldwide, including The Whitney Museum of American Art, KW, The New Museum, K11: Shanghai, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Rossin has received numerous accolades for her achievements as an artist and engineer, including a 2017 Forbes 30 under 30 fellow, and a 2019 Prix Ars Electronica. She holds the first fellowship in Virtual Reality Research at NewInc, and her work has been widely covered in the press including ART21. In addition to her artistic practice, Rossin has worked with prestigious institutions such as MIT, Staedelschule, and Stanford, and her work has been published in notable publications such as “Video/Art: The First Fifty Years” and “Chaos and Awe: Painting for the 21st Century.” Rachel Rossin received the Creative Capital Award in 2024.

Established in 1999 in response to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) ending most of its grants for individual artists, Creative Capital is a nonprofit organization that provides financial and advisory support to innovative artists. Each year, it awards project grants to artists across disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts, literature, media, and technology. Creative Capital has awarded over $55 million in grants and services to 955 artists to create 784 innovative new works in the visual arts, performing arts, film, technology, literature, and multidisciplinary and socially engaged forms. More than 75 percent of Creative Capital Awardees in recent years identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, or artists of color, LGBTQIA+, women, and artists with disabilities. Beyond funding, Creative Capital offers a range of services such as workshops, mentorship, and access to a network of creative professionals to help artists develop their careers. The organization places a strong emphasis on supporting projects that address social issues, encourage community engagement, and foster dialogue.

This program is open to guests of The Fifth Avenue Hotel and is otherwise by invitation. Please write to experiences@thefifthavenuehotel.com to inquire about attendance.
