Neighborhood
At the heart of Manhattan, NoMad is New York's most dynamic community, a magnet for the world’s creative talent, cultural visionaries, and connoisseurs.
All Around Nomad
Centered around Madison Square Park, NoMad is within easy access of such iconic destinations as the Flatiron Building, Chelsea, Union Square, Gramercy Park, and the High Line.
A Creative Crossroads
Celebrated as a birthplace of the Gilded Age, the area’s elegant character has reasserted itself in recent decades, thanks to impeccably restored examples of late 19th and early 20th-century architecture — such as the stately Second National Bank building, designed by McKim, Meade and White and now the home of The Fifth Avenue Hotel.
NoMad’s renaissance has attracted artists, fashion and interior designers, business world disruptors, and award-winning chefs from all over the world. The Empire State Building looms large over our neighborhood, but NoMad is in no one’s shadow.
The Flatiron District
Sitting at the intersection of historic charm and modern innovation, the Flatiron District is named for the famed triangular skyscraper at its tip. The area’s warehouses and factories have been transformed into fashion and design boutiques, lively restaurants and bars, and luxurious residential lofts.
Madison Square Park
Madison Square Park is among New York’s most elegant green spaces, surrounded by exquisite examples of 19th-century architecture. Stroll along its winding paths to admire its diverse plantings and inspiring public art.
Fifth Avenue Shopping
Everything from haute couture boutiques to fast fashion outposts line Fifth Avenue. Here in NoMad, you’ll find treasures like JJ Hat Center (NYC’s oldest hat shop) and the Chelsea Flea (held on Saturdays and Sundays). Walk downtown for big brands or uptown for luxury flagships like Tiffany and Bergdorf Goodman.
Morgan Library & Museum
Financier J. Pierpont Morgan’s magnificent former private library (designed by Charles McKim of McKim, Mead & White) has expanded into a campus where visitors can browse rare texts — including a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the only existing manuscript of Paradise Lost — attend seasonal exhibitions and performances, and more. Free hour-long tours illuminate the permanent collection.
Fotografiska
Housed in an 1894 Church Mission Building, Fotografiska is a branch of an iconoclastic photography museum based in Sweden. The museum houses an eclectic collection of rotating exhibits by iconic artists. Fotografiska is a true salon experience and a must-see when visiting NoMad.
Rizzoli Bookstore
One of the most beloved independent bookshops in New York, if not the world, Rizzoli specializes in illustrated books on photography, architecture, interior design, cuisine, literature, and the fine and applied arts, as well as a selection of fiction and nonfiction titles in Italian, Spanish, and French.
Dover Street Market
Fashion meets art on every level of this eight-floor perennial popup founded by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. The atmosphere changes every January and July, but the attitude is always a devotion to the new, the now, and the next. DSM specializes in avant-garde designers and luxury goods of global provenance.
